Wintertimes / possible new artplace / pimpage

Tue Dec 9, 2008, 11:47 PM
(By the way, my birthday went decently. It was quiet and nothing super amazing happened, but that's cool. I'm not much of a party animal. At all. XD I had my friends around and spice cake cupcakes so I'm good. <3)

Wintertimes
It sure is cold! Even in Las Vegas, where some people seem to think it's sunny and great all the time because they've never actually been here. But right now, a terrible dry coldness is hovering about, chilling me to my very bones. I've had to wear long socks under my pajama pants and sleep with fifty or so blankets *saaaad*. There's also Christmas, Hanukkah, etc comin' up and I am gonna try to draw gifts! So once the semester ends this week (EEEE), that'll be something to do....

Possible new artplace
I think I'm definitely going to join conceptart.org. I'm not sure how you go about getting an actual gallery there, but I do know it's free to join the forums. It seems like a good place to give and receive intelligent feedback. I just hope I'm at least good enough to not raise too many eyebrows or get booted out or what have you. </paranoid> And of course I'll be staying here too, I just don't feel that DA is enough help in terms of growing artistically and getting exposure.

Which reminds me: I think I might get a second account here. This current one will hold all my fanart and fun stuff, while the new one will be a little more serious business, with my polished original stuff, my actual name in the name field instead of a witty line, and all that sort of thing. Whether or not everything already on this one will stay on this one ... I haven't decided yet.

Ayako Ono
[link] This girl was the teacher's assistant in my beginning painting class! I've seen her in the studio working on her stuff before, and right now one of the small showrooms at school is displaying some of her paintings. They look really cool in real life... the blues are so vivid, and canvases have a sort of glossy, shimmery finish.

Aaron Sheppard
[link] I think he has his own class now? Anyway, I always see him walking around. His stuff is interesting! Not quite my cup of tea, but I do appreciate it nonetheless.

Lance Smith
[link] I only wish I could show you more, but I couldn't find anything (google was almost no help, since there are apparently more artists named Lance Smith). I've known him since senior year of high school and kinda wish we could have hung out more! He's an AMAZING artist. Something about his stuff kinda lights me up inside, and makes me want to keep getting better. It probably helps that he's super sweet as well.

THE END. Time to study for my sociology test. Oh boy

You've got a lot of talented people at your school! I think there's a published novelist at my school, but that's about it. It's not fair. You guys even got Michael Godard.

And I'm glad to hear you've decided to join ConceptArt :] I think it'll be really great for you! Your art is great already, but you have the potential to become even greater, and it's good to see you're taking active steps towards that!

Yes, there are some pretty enviable artists! EXCEPT THE ART BUILDINGS ARE THE OLDEST, SHITTIEST ONES ON CAMPUS. It's so unfair to all those wonderful people and makes me want to slap somebody. Story I heard today: the printmaking studio's roof is rather broken, and sometimes leaks. Well, they finally got someone to take a gander, and they said that they couldn't guarantee their work because the BUILDING IS SO OLD. Whhhaaaaat.

Also, I'm trying to be less lazy/afraid about ... well, getting out there. I mean, once I'm done with college.... then what?!

There are people less talented than you are right now out there with stable jobs in the art world. I mean, just look at them MANGA MADNESSZ!!1 books.

Anyway! It's a shame that art always gets shafted, while petty distractions like the football team probably get a third of the school's budget. I'm sure they've probably trashed and rebuilt the stadium four times since the art buildings were constructed.

I hope they don't collapse D:

Them collapsing might be a good excuse for building new ones 8| .... wow, that's pretty sad when I think about it. But it's probably true.

Well, knowing them, they'll just make the art classes take place outside.

In the rain.

And then the assignments for 3D design will revolve around the students making their OWN art building. I can see it now. *chinstroke*
Classy.

...Ahahaha. That would be glorious.

Just make sure the really pretentious art people get a segment of the building that isn't important.

FFFHAhaha. Wow, so true. This new building may not be very practical.

...Actually, an artsy-looking art building might be kinda neat. I saw a whole lot of those when I went to Seattle a few years back, actually.

Just so long as it's also practical, at least.
